Rane chides CM for wrong reply on MoI

PANJIM: In an embarrassment to the State government, misinformation was provided to the State Legislative Assembly on the present status of Medium of Instruction (MoI) policy.

According to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who is also the Education Minister, the policy was referred to the public accounts committee (PAC) for examination, while in reality the policy has been referred to the Assembly’s Select Committee, headed by the CM himself, during the monsoon session, last year.
Even before the Question Hour could begin on Tuesday, Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane raised a point of order informing the House about the misinformation provided to the legislators pertaining to MoI.
“After the Cabinet decision taken on July 2, 2014, the Goa School Education (Amendment) Bill 2014 (Bill No.24 of 2014) was placed before the Goa Legislative Assembly. The same has been referred to Public Accounts Committee for examination,” Rane said while reading out the reply tabled by the Education Minister, accusing government for taking the proceedings of the assembly for granted.
“Leader of opposition is the chairman of PAC and how can Opposition decide about government policy? This is a most careless reply,” he said, while alluding to  Parsekar’s reply that the policy had been referred to PAC.
