PONDA: Though Goa Pradesh Congress Committee and AICC were yet to declare its official candidate, they seem to have hinted at fielding Roy Ravi Naik, son of former Chief Minister and Ponda MLA Ravi Naik as a candidate against former Congress MLA Vishwajit Rane, who will contest on BJP ticket from Valpoi constituency.
Opening a Congress Party campaign office at Usgao, AICC General Secretary Girish Chodankar said many Congress workers have demanded a strong candidate against Vishwajit, who had ditched them during crucial time.
He assured Valpoi Congress workers that door of re-entry to Congress party for Vishwajit was permanently closed and that Congress workers should fearlessly come forward and support Roy.
Chodankar said though there were many candidates and the official announcement would be made soon, many Congress workers rooted for Roy.
He also appealed and advised Congress probable candidate Roy to Counter Vishwajit’s campaign of providing jobs to locals by visiting every house to inform that all the jobs were given were during Congress Government.
Chodankar said Vishwajit, instead of pointing fingers against Roy, should keep in mind how corruption charges were levelled by him against BJP government in and outside the Assembly.
Local President of Congress Roshani Desai, Ashish Kanekar, Goa Congress general secretary Anton Gomes, Vijay Poi and Rekha Velingkar were also present.
