Russian escapes from Mapusa detention centre

PANJIM: A Russian national who was lodged at the detention centre in Mapusa escaped on Wednesday evening by cutting  a metal roof rafter. The Mapusa police have launched a search to track down the accused.  

The Mapusa Police have booked Dmitri Aleksandrov,  under section 14 of the Foreigners Act after he escaped the detention centre housed at the police station campus where he was lodged the FRRO,  for overstaying.

 Mapusa Police Inspector Paresh Naik has informed that Dmitri was convicted for overstaying and was lodged in the Detention centre on February 9. 

Not too long ago, an under trial Russian named Makarov Maxim accused of peddling drugs escaped from police custody after his case hearing in fast-track court in Panjim on December 14. The escaped Russian is yet to be traced. This is the second case of a Russian national escaping police custody within a matter of two and half months.
