MARGAO: Residents of Rawanfond and the surrounding areas have expressed concern over their safety and urged the authorities to take immediate action against the illegal activities thriving on the roadside at Rawanfond junction.
They also demanded that the Public Works Department vacate the illegal sheds that have been erected in the area by unknown people.

According to the citizens, a road heading towards Quepem and Dramapur has been dug up and traffic has been diverted. The ongoing road work coupled with illegal businesses have created a dangerous situation for the locals, including Goan vendors who sell locally-grown vegetables and fish along the stretch. The junction at Rawanfond is considered one of the most accident-prone spots, with heavy vehicles passing through the area and posing a risk to pedestrians and commuters.
Anand Zambaulikar, a resident of Rawanfond, expressed his concern for the local vendors due to the ongoing work and diversion of traffic at the junction.
“The ongoing works have posed a danger to pedestrians, commuters and local roadside vendors. Confusion and chaos prevails in the movement of traffic due to the diversion; it has resulted in a mess over here,” he said. He also alleged that gadda owners have erected sheds that obstruct traffic and pose a danger to pedestrians, and called for action against such illegalities.
Local residents have requested that the police department take action against those involved in activities posing a risk to road-users, and have demanded that safety measures be put in place to address the situation.
