Sancoale Panchayat issues stop work notice to Marman Shipyard

VASCO: The Sancoale Village Panchayat on Wednesday issued a stop work notice to the Marman Shipyard, Sancoale after villagers strongly objected to the dredging activity by the shipyard.

Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai said that the villagers of Bondebhat had complained against the ongoing dredging activity of the shipyard, who according to him, had not applied for any permissions from the village panchayat nor from the Sancoale Biodiversity Board.

Pillai said the  panchayat immediately issued a stop work notice to the shipyard. He said that the panchayat will now  inspect  the shipyard.

The sarpanch said that the panchayat will not permit any activity opposed by the villagers and will also not allow any activity that affects the environment especially the marine life and endangered species besides destroying self-employment opportunities and which poses threat to lives of locals.
