PANJIM: After creating a history by winning from his parliamentary constituency for the fifth time in a row, North Goa MP Shripad Naik said he is hopeful of getting a Cabinet berth in the new Narendra Modi-led government again.
“It is the prerogative of the Prime Minister. I am hopeful to get inducted in the central cabinet again as the PM had earlier said he could give us cabinet rank again,” he said.
The North MP, who defeated his nearest rival Congress’ Girish Chodankar by 79,627 votes visited the Mahalaxmi Temple in Panjim on Friday morning to seek the blessings of the Goddess.
Naik holds the record of being the longest serving MP after Congress’ Eduardo Faleiro who had also won five consecutive parliamentary elections from South Goa from 1977 to 1991. BJP’s Naik has been North Goa’s MP since 1999.
