From 2016, the Electronic Dance Music festivals (EDM) will not be at liberty to
select their venues and dates for the events as the high level government
committee has raised strong objections to the organisers’ taking decisions on
their own.
The
State Level Permission Committee (SLPC) has suggested that the government take
over deciding on the venues and dates that hitertho lay with the Sunburn and
Supersonic organisers. The early sale of tickets, even before applying and
obtaining permission from the government authorities, has irked the committee.

“The
government finds itself in a fixed spot when the organisers finalise the venue
and dates to hold their respective events, and then approach the committee for
approval. The clash of event dates is a major problem every year as no
organiser is willing to compromise on this matter,” a committee member said.
Percept
Ltd’s Sunburn and VH1’s Supeprsonic is now likely to shift from their present
locations at Vagator and Candolim. The preferable destinations will be in South
Goa besides Baga, while the dates will also be decided by the government.
The
committee will meet in January 2016 where the organisers and government
authorities will put forth their views on the issue. “We are looking for
non-controversial locations, those not in the CRZ areas, etc. The organisers
can also give inputs at the time of the SLPC meeting in January. Government
will accordingly take a final decision,” the official said.
The
State has also been receiving objection from locals over the venues, noise
pollution and other problems as a result of the four-day long party.
The
two mega events, that bring in several thousand party-goers to the coastal
belt, is scheduled to be held from December 27-30. This is the last year that
permission for the existing venues and dates will be granted.
