CURCHOREM: Quepem Police arrested one Achyut Gaonkar for firing at his father Vishnu. An injured 62-year-old Vishnu was admitted to Hospicio Hospital, Margao. The bullet had grazed past his chest. Achyut has been arrested under Section 307 of IPC. He was remanded in police custody for six days. The cops have seized the weapon.
The father-son duo had a property dispute for some time. Following a heated argument, Achyut committed the crime, the police said.
Vishnu has three daughters and Achyut is his only son. Sources said Achyut was at loggerheads with his father as he felt he did not get a fair share of his ancestral property. This is the second attempt on Vishnu Gaonkar.
Two years ago, Quepem police had arrested Achyut on charges of firing at his (then) 60-year-old dad Vishnu and wounding him at at Kasme, Sulcorna, Quepem. It may be recalled that Vishnu and his attendant, on June 30, 2014, had gone to perform a puja some 2.5km from his residence. Achyut had fired at him from behind, injuring Vishnu.
