PANJIM: The State government on Sunday paid tributes to former Chief Minister and Defence Minister late Manohar Parrikar on his birth anniversary. While the government organized second edition of ‘Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav’, the BJP held a blood donation camp.

Parrikar was born on December 13, 1955. He died on March 17, 2019 after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant paid homage to Parrikar by terming him as an “inspiration and a guiding force”.
“Late Manohar Parrikar was an inspiration and guiding force for us. We are following the path shown by him. On his birth anniversary today, we pay homage to his soul,” Sawant tweeted.
While addressing the Vidnyan Mahotsav, Sawant remembered contribution of Parrikar in building modern Goa and also the nation. “Parrikar will not just be remembered as Chief Minister or Defence Minister but as a visionary leader who contributed in overall development of the State and the country,” he said.
Sawant said Parrikar always had a faith in Science and believed that Science, Technology and innovations are important aspects of human development. He said government will encourage youth to take up science and innovations, which in turn will play important role in the development of the State.
Earlier speaking at the event, Minister for Waste Management Michael Lobo said it was dream and vision of Parrikar to make Goa garbage free and this government is committed to achieve the same.
He said while the Saligao waste treatment plant, which was brainchild of Parrikar, is undergoing expansion, the Cacora plant for South Goa will be completed within the next eight months. “After that, Goa will be garbage free,” he said.
On the occasion, a book on life of Parrikar titled “Manohar Parrikar- Brilliant Mind, Simple Life”, authored by senior journalist and national security analyst Nitin Gokhale, was released on the occasion.
Earlier in the day, Sawant paid tributes to Parrikar at his Smriti Sthal, Miramar.
The BJP’s Panjim mandal organised a blood donation camp in its office to mark the occasion, where some party MLAs and workers donated blood.
