State to set up maritime institution at Britona on BOOT basis

MAPUSA: Ports Minister Michael Lobo on Thursday announced that a maritime institution in Goa will be set up at Britona on build own operate transfer (BOOT) basis.”
Addressing at a Goa Liberation Day function at government complex, Mapusa, he said, “The institute will offer 18 courses related to maritime for Class XII and college students who wish to work on cruiseliners. Once the institute gets operational, the certificate courses will be valid internationally”.
Lobo said, “Goa Government will not invest money on the institute but only provide land for the same. However, the institute will be totally controlled by state. The fees will be decided by the government so that instead of moving out of State, youth can avail the courses at the institute. All formalities have been completed”. 
“Sustainable mining is need of the hour and we also have to take care of the nature. Standard of living needs to be improved. Over a lakh people in mining areas are unemployed and at present are totally dependent on farming”, Lobo informed.
Lobo said, “By 2022 I will ensure that waste segregation in entire State and educate each village in this regard. The GWMC will personally collect waste and send the same for treatment at the plants located Saligao and Sonsoddo”. 
Additional Collector Mahadev Arondekar, Bardez Deputy Collector I, Akshay Potekar, Deputy Collector II, Mamu Hage, Mamlatdar Laxmikant Kuttikar, Joint Mamlatdar, chairperson Ryan Braganza along with councillors and other officials were present.
