PANJIM: For the second consecutive year, Goa topped among the small States in the Food Safety Index (FSI), however, the coastal State’s performance witnessed a drastic drop.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) have issued FSI 2020-21. As per the report released earlier this month, the State scored 63 per cent score as against 83.5 per cent it had achieved in 2019-20.

The evaluation was carried out based on the five parameters such as Human Resource and Institutional Data, Enforcement and Compliance, Testing Infrastructure, Consumer Empowerment, Training and Awareness with 20 per cent weightage in each category.
For the year 2020-21, Goa scored 15 per cent in the category of Human Resource and Institution Data while the FDA Goa scored 16 per cent in Enforcement and Compliance of Rules under Foods and Drugs Administration. Further, 12 per cent score in Testing Infrastructure is been obtained and 15 per cent in Consumer Empowerment. It scored least five per cent in creating awareness and training — the factor where it failed to improve.
Meanwhile, the Director of FDA Goa Jyoti Sardesai received the award on behalf of the State, at the hands of Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandviaji, at Delhi on Monday.
