VALPOI: The number of KFD cases in Sattari has fallen drastically this year, as compared to the same period last year.
Last year, between January and April, 200 persons tested positive for KFD in Sattari. However, this year, only 80 persons have tested positive for KFD till now.
Valpoi Health Officer Dr Gajanan Naik attributes this steep drop to the awareness programmes and vaccination drives conducted by the Health Department.
Since detecting the disease two and half years ago, Dr Naik said, the Health Department has carried out 50 vaccination drives in 70 villages, wherein 9,000 people have been vaccinated. Besides, the KFD vaccine is administered to people every Tuesday and Friday at the Valpoi Primary Health Centre.
The disease was first reported in Pali village of Sattari, in April 2015. Since then the disease has snuffed out the lives of four persons. Of the four, three were from Pali and one was from Mauxi village.
