PANJIM: Paving the way for long pending BJP-MGP pre poll alliance for the coming Assembly elections, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party leader Transport Minister Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar on Thursday resigned from Congress-led government in the State.
Dhavalikar’s resignation has come as a sigh of relief to BJP, who were disturbed with minister’s conduct over continuing with Congress government inspite of alliance talks with them.
However, MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar said that they are yet to withdraw from the government. “The minister has resigned but we are yet to withdraw,” he said adding that the party will pull out from the government only after resignation is accepted.
The resignation came after Party’s central committee on January 31 asked its minister to resign from the cabinet.
Dhavalikar’s resignation has come hours before BJP’s state election committee is scheduled to meet to take final call on the alliance between the party and MGP.
MGP president has said that they will hold party’s parliamentary committee meeting on Sunday to discuss about the candidates. “If alliance is not formed then we will fight the polls on our own,” he said blaming the BJP for sitting over the proposal.
MGP, which had initially demanded 13 seats, have been offered only six by BJP including Quepem constituency seat.
Dhavalikar said that party will contest in almost 16 seats, if it goes alone into the polls. “We have short-listed certain candidates but the final call will be only after alliance talks and party meeting on Sunday,” he informed.
