PANJIM: In view of rising COVID-19 cases across Goa, the State government has temporarily suspended all the activities related to its ambitious “Atmanirbhar Bharat — Swayampurna Goa” programme with immediate effect.
Principal Secretary (Planning) Puneet Kumar Goel in an order issued on Thursday, has directed all the Swayampurna Paryavekshaks, Taluka Nodal Officers, Swayampurna Mitras and Swayampurna Sahayaks, to suspend all the activities under the programme till further orders, as a preventive measure, due to rising COVID cases.
The programme, launched on October 2, across all village panchayats and later extended to municipal areas, was with an objective to make the government beneficiary oriented schemes to reach at the door steps of the last person, to attain self sustainability by identifying and tapping the potential.
The programme also aimed at identifying the skills of the unemployed youth and needs of the people, thereby fulfilling the aspirations of the needy people with less government and more governance, Goel said.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had announced to make Goa Swayampurna by December 19, 2021, as State celebrates 60 years of its liberation.
