PANJIM: Days after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that jobs are not a priority for Panjim, the BJP’s manifesto for the upcoming Panjim by-elections has emphasized on providing employment opportunities. Trying to fill in the vacuum created in lieu of former CM Manohar Parrikar’s death, the manifesto has been given an emotional touch as it remembers the stalwart.
In the manifesto, released in the presence of CMPramod Sawant, Party’s State President Vinay Tendulkar and others, the party listed out its achievements during last 25 years.
Covering 10 major segments for the capital city, BJP’s candidate for Panjim by-polls Sidharth Kuncalienker said that employment generation through incubation centres and government initiatives have already been initiated. Similarly, centres for recreation and study facilities for youth at Alto-St Inez, Altinho, Ribandar and Mala have also been initiated while projects such as job fairs round the year and promoting entrepreneurship and talent among women through women welfare schemes are in the pipeline. He further praised the initiatives for education including the provisions of buses and decongesting the capital city via the Cujira education complex.
He recalled how the city, which was a den of gang wars, saw an end of criminal activities once Parrikar was first elected as the MLA. .
The two-time MLA said Panjim city has undergone a sea change in the last 25 years from a place, which was prone to flooding, landslides, lawlessness and other issues. He also assured that retaining walls were built to arrest landslides while the city is well connected with the bridges, beautified with gardens and parks while also Mandovi promenade was built up to get the view of the river.
The four lane road providing exit to the city through Dona Paula-Bambolim was also constructed during tenure of Parrikar, while 20 MVA sub-station has been set up at Patto.
He said that the party will continue its pace of development, while the project like Smart City will completely change the face of the capital city.
About the Panjim market complex, he said that phase three of the market will be constructed on modern lines wherein space for self-help groups and mahila mandals will be allocated to sell their products. A separate space for fish and meat vendors in along with sanitized fish and meat cutting and cleaning area is also in the pipeline. Proper facilities for segregation and disposal of garbage generated from the market, additional parking facility are among many others assured to the people of Panjim.
The manifesto also mentioned about the rejuvenation of St Inez creek.
CM said the party will fulfill Parrikar’s vision for Panjim and the State. “All his dreams for Panjim will be fulfilled and some works which were pending, will be completed soon,” he added.
The manifesto highlighted the relationship Parrikar shared with the capital; the ‘untiring and selfless service on every front’ and various welfare schemes for the people.
