SANGUEM: In a major relief to the residents of Verlem, Tudov and Salgini, Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL) Managing Director Venancio Furtado assured the Netravali Panchayat delegation that the corporation would not stop its lone bus service plying to the above hilly areas.
A delegation of Netravali Panchayat led by deputy sarpanch Abhijit Dessai and others met the Furtado and briefed him that the locals of Verlem, Tudov and Salgini would face severe hardship if the bus service to the hilly areas was stopped over bad roads as mentioned by the Depot Manager, Margao in his recent letter to the panchayat.
Dessai suggested Furtado that if the KTCL faces any major problems on account of the poor road conditions, then the corporation could start a mini bus service on regular basis till the road condition is improved.
Dessai said two years ago he had written to the PWD to repair the damaged road leading to the hilly areas of Verlem, Salgini and Tudov. However, the request is still under consideration.
Meanwhile, sources informed that the Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar visited the hilly areas on Monday morning to ascertain the road condition. After his visit, Gaonkar has reportedly assured to look into the matter on an urgent basis.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar is reported to have met the KTCL chairman Carlos Almeida and briefed him over the issue.
Considering Kavlekar’s request, Almeida has assured not to stop the bus service to the hilly areas of Verlem, Salgini and Tudov.
