PANJIM: The Water Resources Department (WRD) on Wednesday cautioned the locals residing in and around Anjunem dam that the water from the dam could be discharged in two days.
WRD pointed out that the excess water in the dam will be routed through Costi Nadi and Valvanti rivers normally during low tides. Hence there is a possibility of increase in water level in the above two rivers, said WRD in an appeal to the villagers of Keri, Morlem and Poriem panchayats.
They added that with continuous and heavy rain in Sattari, they expect the level to reach 89 meters in two days, at which point they will discharge the water as it would then be necessary to release excess water.
At present, the level has reached 87.50 meters, which is only 1.50 meters lower than the threshold. They added that the impounding of the Anjunem dam commenced from June 13.
