GOA VELHA: Anjuna Gymkhana became the second finalist following their 6-5 shoot-out win over Candolim Gymkhana in the 13th London Trophy, organised by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha ground, on Sunday.
Anjuna Gymkhana started the match on an attacking note and in the 15th minute Anand Madgaonkar ran down from the centre only to be dispossessed by a diving Soma Korgaonkar.
Anjuna finally broke the deadlock just before the breather when Samel D’Souza set up Faheez Mohammed, who headed home from close to make it 1-0.
Crossing over, Anjuna came with renewed ideas and in the 46th minute Vinayak Murgaonkar floated the ball in the box, but Candolim keeper Gauresh was fastest to react and collected the ball to thwart anyy danger.
In the final quarter, Candolim SC pressurised the Anjuna Gymkhana defence as Bhavesh set up Jose Fernandes, who goal bound shot just went over the bar.
Finally the equaliser came in the 58th minute through Anand, who shot from a distance.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
In the tie-breaker, Dinesh Morajkar, Pratik, Akshay, Aniket and Soma scored for the winning side while Rohan Kamble missed for Anjuna.
For Candolim, Aniket, Bhavesh, Harish and Frazer managed to score for Candolim.
