CM accolades, Rs 10L purse for Bhakti

Panjim: The State government has awarded Bhakti Kulkarni Rs 10 lakhs for her commendable performance in the recently concluded Chess Olympiad held in Mamallapuram, near Chennai. 

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, gracing a function to felicitate Bhakti at Institute Menezes Branganza Hall, here on Monday, said: “She will also be appointed to a post in the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) either as a coach or another suitable position.”

Sawant acknowledged Bhakti’s performance, saying that it is an inspiration to every sportsperson in the state and that he hoped she would win more honours for country.                   

Also present on the occasion was Sports Minister Govind Gaude, Ajay Gaude Executive Director SAG and other officials of Chess Goa. 

Bhakti, on her part, thanked her family and friends who played their part as she developed her chess skills over the years. 

“My mother, who did not understand the sport, accompanied her to various tournaments and training sessions over the years after my father introduced me to chess,” Bhakti said. “I am grateful to him.”
