RAIA: A goal in the 78th minute by substitute Selwyn Miranda helped host Goa to register an important win over Jammu and Kashmir 2-1 in the 77th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy Group A match played at SAG ground, Benaulim, on Sunday.
Clencio Pinto scored the other goal for Goa while Adnan Ayub was reduced the margin for Jammu and Kashmir.
Goa dominated the first 15 minutes of the match. Playing some attacking brand of football missed scoring chances through the boots of Clencio Pinto, Joebern Cardozo and Dattaraj Gaonkar. Goa’s effort paid dividend as Clencio Pinto beat Umaid Hussain Mugloo off a cross from Leewan Castanha in the 15th minute of the match.
Jammu & Kashmir equalised in the injury time of the first half on a spot kick as Leewan pulled down J&K player inside the box. Referee Simanta Kahar awarded a penalty kick which was converted by Adnan Ayub. Substitute Selwyn Miranda scored the all-important goal for Goa in the 78th minute.
In another match played in the morning session, Kerala registered their third win in a row. They defeated Chhattisgarh after leading by a goal in the first session. E Sajeesh, Junain Kadvalath and Nijo Gilbert were the scorers for Kerala.
