MARGAO: Maclon Colaco stole the limelight as he struck twice to help Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem drub Corps of Signals 4-1 in a round eight match of GFA’s First Division football league, at SAG ground, Assolna, on Thursday. Guardian Angel led 2-1 at the breather.
Guardian Angel dominated the game and troubled Corps of Signals umpteen times. They went into the lead in the 15th minute when Benzu Clemente punished the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish off a through pass from Selgan Gracias.
Subsequently, Maclon doubled the lead in the 27th minute when he received a through pass from Godfrey Silva and finished with a clean strike.
Guardian Angel launched barrage off attacks and pushed their opponents on the back-foot for major part of the game. They could have pumped in more goals had not their forwards muffed gilt edged chances. Sleagan Gracias’ thumping header was blocked by rival goalkeeper Lalruatfela.
With time running out for lemon break, Corps of Signals reduced the margin in the injury time following a well measured cross from Kunal Sarkar from the right that saw midfielder substitute Solomon unleashed a snap shot beat the rival goalkeeper Jovial Countinho hands down .
Crossing over, Corps of Signals put up an improved display and their forwards Pankaj Gurka and captain Roshan Singh worked in tandem. They had a chance to reduce the deficits but Roshan blew away from close range.
Corps of Signals were unlucky when Topo floated a flag-kick inside the rival penalty area and Guardian Angel goalkeeper Jovial Coutinho fumbled in his collection but Steve Fernandes ballooned over from close.
Maclon put the issue beyond doubt in the 87th minute when he picked up the ball from Jaison Dias and beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish.
Godfrey Silva drove the last nail into rival coffin in the injury time after he was laid by Benzu Clemente.
With this win, Guardian Angel Sports Club took their tally to 12 points from eight matches while Corps of Signals stay on 10 points from eight outings.
At Rosary ground, Navelim, United Club of Navelim and Penha de Franca Sports Club played out goalless draw.
Goa Police Sports Club and Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao played out a 2-2 draw, at Santa Cruz ground.
Curtorim Gymkhana edged past Panjim Footballers 3-2, at Don Bosco ground, Panjim.
