MARGAO: Maina Sports Club defeated Navelim Sporting Club 2-1 to sail into the quarterfinal of the All Goa Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup inter village football tournament organized by Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club at Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal on Monday.
There was no score at lemon break .
The first in which both the teams were subdued, ended goalless. Though Maina Sports Club came close on taking the lead on a quite a few occasions, they failed to convert.
Immediately on resumption, striker Alvito Colaco gave Navelim Sporting Club the lead. However their joy was short lived when Myron Fernandes punished the rival goalkeeper with clinical finish. Just when the match seemed to heading for a 1-1 draw, Peter Pereira found the match winner with snap shot which eluded both the goalkeeper and defender.
