PANJIM: United Club Nerul and Holiday Sports Club Arpora played out an entrallin 3-3 draw in the Goa Football Association, Third Division League match played at Nerul ground, on Saturday.
UC Nerul scored the first goal of the match through Loukesh Pillea before Sahil Morajkar equalised for the rivals and Pallav Murrari doubled their lead before the end of the first half. The home side came back stronger and shot into lead in the second half through Anant Chopdekar 57’ and Saurav Naik 58’ before Pallav completed his brace for Holiday SC to save his side the blushes.
Both the teams started on equal footings and tried to get the ball past the net to get the advantage in the game Saish Parleikar played magically in the midfied while Sahil Morajkar and Pallav Murrari made some fascinating move from the flanks.
In another match at Nachinola ground, St Sebastian SC Mapusa edged past Bastora United Sports and Cultural Club 2-1.
The Mapusa side led in the first half but couldn’t cope up with the pressure mounted by Bastora United as they conceded two late goals.
Joyel Martins scored for St Sebastian SC in the 43rd minute while Sheldon Rebello and Caiston Cardozo scored for the Bastora sede in the 79th and 84th minutes respectively.
Elsewhere at Dando ground in Benaulim, St Anthony’s Club Colva defeated Margao Sports Club 3-2.
Francis Pauskar scored a hat-trick for St Anthony’s Sports Club.
The match between FC Sanquelim and Benny XI, played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, was called off on Saturday due to the bad lights.
The sudden showers on Saturday effected the ground conditions in Assonora, which made it impossible to play which compelled the officials to shift the venue to Duler Stadium, Mapusa for betterment of the teams.
“Assonora venue was not playable due to heavy showers and the department requested the match to be called of at the venue. However, on consultation with both the teams I shifted the match to Duler so as to avoid postponement and delaying the League further,” said GFA general secretary Welvin Menezes.
Benny XI lead 2-0 as they scored through Stepelton Fernandes and Chetan Shirodkar in the 32nd and the 64th minutes respectively against FC sanquelim till the final quarter before the match was called off by the officials for bad light.
Benny XI official Bosco Monteiro said, “It was a very good decision on part of GFA for playing us at a Duler Stadium after the initial (Assonora) venue was unplayable.”
The remaining minutes of the game will be played some other time. When tried to contact FC Sanquelim official Milind Rane, his phone was out of reach.
