PANJIM: Perpetual High School, Navelim, scored a solitary goal victory over Loyola High School, Margao, to move into the next round of the St Dominic Savio Inter-School Invitational Football Tournament organised by the Association of Pastpupils of Don Bosco, Mormugao, at Nagoa panchayat ground, on Monday.
The match was a well-balanced game with both teams displaying good footballing skills.
Perpetual High School scored the match-winner in the 15th minute with a well-coordinated play between Anosh Vaz, who dribbled past two Loyola High School players and gave a measured pass to Liroy Gomes, who netted in beating the Loyola High School goalkeeper.
Perpetual High School would have doubled the score or more but the Loyola High School goalkeeper was too good under the crossbar.
In the second match, Rosary High School, Navelim, registered a 4-3 win against St Jude High School, Betalbatim. Rosary HS opened the account through Synden Gomes.
Down with a goal, St Jude HS put pressure on the rival citadel and just two minutes before the final whistle scored the equaliser, 1-1.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Rosary HS got the better of St Jude in an aggregate score of 4-3.
Earlier, chief guest Nicholas Fernandes, a football player of yesteryears, benefactor and senior pastpupil of Don Bosco was introduced to the players.
Special guest international footballer Joaquim Abranches showed his football skills and kicked off the tournament in the presence of international women’s footballer Fanny Vaz. Fr Tony Alemao welcomed the guests and teams.
