MAPUSA: A fine second half brace by Joe Colaco helped Parish Youth Nuvem overcome Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao 2-0 to enter the semi-finals of Calangute Panchayat Cup soccer organized by Calangute Association at Poriat ground, Calangute, Saturday.
The teams started attackingly and Nuvem created the first threat after Rosario’s well-measured cross sailed over the rival defence and found teammate Alrich inside the box but the latter’s powerful strike was thwarted by Taleigao goalkeeper Jonathan.
At the other end, Taleigao midfielder Anthony sent a defence splitting pass to Cedric, whose stiff grounder was blocked by Nuvem custodian Francisco.
Taleigao played good short passes as Cedric set up striker Raymond in the danger zone but Nuvem defender Queterio came up with a timely tackle at the half hour mark.
Post resumption, Taleigao were caught on the counter as Alrich squared the ball to Rosario, who however shot wide with only the Taleigao custodian at his mercy.
Subsequently, Nuvem broke the deadlock in the 55th minute after Cristo intelligently set up unmarked Joe, who slotted home in the empty goal.
Stunned by the setback, Taleigao tried hard to get back into the game but the slippery ground conditions added to their problems.
In the dying minute, Joe registered his brace after beating goalkeeper Jonathan with a deft placement.
