PANJIM: Cuncolim Union members led by former SP, Sammy Tavares, alleged that the present term of the managing committee of the club expired on January 27, 2021 after the last election was held in 2019 and that no general body meeting had even taken place in 2023 denying the holding of elections even after two-and- half years.
Sammy alongwith some members pointed out that membership forms were not being issued to those wanting to apply for the same on the pretext that membership is closed and that too on the pretext of Covid-19. “We wanted to meet the office-bearers in the office of the club which is normally open on Sundays, but we found it closed. It is now more than two years and six months that the tenure of the present committee is over and there are no signs of the Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) being held to hold elections and also to present the audited statement of accounts,” observed Sammy.

Sammy said that Covid-19 is being mentioned as one of the reasons for the delay in calling the AGM and holding elections, even when the pandemic is over long back.
Oscar Martins, another member, referred to the constitution of the club which mandates holding of elections every two years and that the last elections were held on January 27, 2019. The AGMs have not been held and no audited reports presented, he alleged. “We wanted to bring it to the notice of the committee that general elections are overdue and also find out as to why membership forms were not being issued.”
Another member, Jhonson Fernandes lamented that the ground is in a pathetic condition with cows grazing in the night and drunkards leaving liquor bottles and littering the ground with rubbish.
Internal sources confided that Covid was the main reason for the delay and that activities have resumed fully. Accounts are in the finalisation stage, it is learnt. Clarification on the points raised by some members is expected to be issued later and so also holding of the AGM.
