RAIA: United Club of Verna came from behind to secure semi-finals spot defeating Guardian Angel SC 5-4 via tie-breaker in the 7th Martin’s Cup football tournament organised by Betalbatim SC, at panchayat ground, Betalbatim, on Tuesday.
Guardian Angel SC were the first to register their name on score sheet with a Roydon Rego’s self-goal in the 10th minute of play. UC Verna bounced back and found the equaliser through Shelton in the 24th minute of play. Both teams were tied 1-1 draw at the half time.
In the second session, again Guardian Angel SC took the lead in the 42nd minute of the game through Godwin Fernandes. In the dying minutes, UC Verna scored through Clifton Fernandes to make it 2-2, and made way for penalty shoot-out to decide the winner. In the resultant tie-breaker, UC Verna netted through Savio, Desmond and Roydon Rego, while Rayan and Genito were on target for Guardian Angel SC.
