Scrap GIS-based zoning plan for Pernem taluka, demands Congress; threatens to block Chopdem bridge

The Goa Congress Party has launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government, voicing their strong opposition to the draft GIS-based zoning plan for Pernem taluka. According to Congress, the government’s actions are endangering Goa’s future by potentially compromising the livelihoods of its residents. They have called for the immediate scrapping of the draft and threatened to organize a massive protest, including blocking the Chopdem-Siolim bridge if their demands are not met.

The controversy surrounding the zoning plan stems from limited public access to the draft for inspection. It was made available for just one and a half days last month, with the deputy town planner of Pernem present at the office only twice a week, leaving the plan accessible during his hours. Frustrated locals are demanding an explanation before October 6 and are prepared to take drastic measures to safeguard their interests.
