MARGAO: The Sao Jose de Areal gram sabha on Sunday besides objecting to the double tracking of railway tracks by the South Western Railways also objected to the proposal by Goa Carbon Ltd to set up a dust suppression plant in the factory until such time as the people were taken into confidence about this proposed project.
The panchayat was directed to write to the management of Goa Carbon Ltd to have a demonstration for the people so that they can see how effective the dust suppression plant would be and they wanted to apprise for themselves that the plant truly reduced dust.
Besides, the panchayat was asked to write to the Goa State Pollution Control Board to submit a report of the pollution levels at the plant in terms that would be understood by the laymen as the board has submitted a report that is scientific in nature and not understandable by the common man.
Following protests by the villagers the Goa State Pollution Control Board had set up machinery at Goa Carbon Ltd to measure the pollution levels and had submitted a report to the panchayat which was taken up for discussion.
The villagers also objected to the double tracking of the railway tracks by South Western Railways and demanded that the railways show them the exact plans of how and on which land they propose to acquire and for what in the village beginning from Davorlim Dicarpale to Chandor.
