CURCHOREM: The fish vendors in the Curchorem fish market are upset with Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) authorities for removing the front pieces of the platforms allotted to them to sell fish in the newly renovated shed without informing them.

The fish vendors said the platforms allotted to them were covered on all three sides keeping open inner side which was used to keep their boxes with ice and fish.
“Since the authorities opened the front side of all the platforms for reasons best known to them, it becomes difficult for us to keep our boxes and other essential things as it spoil the looks of the market,” complained a monger.
The fish vendors fear that platforms could collapse any moment as they are without any support in between.
When asked why the front portion has been removed, CCMC Chairperson Balkrishna (Pinty) Hodarkar said, “The front pieces of some platforms fell on their own after some mongers pushed their boxes, which were placed inside the platforms. We inspected the platforms and decided to remove the front pieces. We will close the front portion with bricks the work of which will start soon”.With regards to dry fish shed, Hodarkar said, “The tender will be issued soon and work will commence on priority basis. The work got a bit delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic.”
Meanwhile, the fish vendors also complained that despite repeated complaints, the CCMC has not taken any action against the illegal mongers selling fish on the streets and by the roadside.
