VASCO: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Jose Philip D’Souza has slammed BJP MLAs for interfering in municipal politics and obstructing the developmental works.
D’Sousa said that MLAs should mind their own work and bring development which people need.
Commenting over the recent municipal election issue, D’Souza said that MLAs should not interfere in the working of the councillors. “Interference by MLAs in municipal politics has blocked pre-monsoon works and efficient functioning of the municipal council,” he said.
D’Souza said that the councillors need to be given liberty to undertake development in their wards. “If the ministers or MLAs interfere with the functioning of the municipality, then, people will hold the them responsible for the incomplete works,” he warned.
When asked comment on the pending pre-monsoon works, D’Souza said that the pre-monsoon works which were suppose to be completed before monsoon is still not completed and now that one person has lost his life, the councillors have woken up and undertaking the works.
“Whoever may be elected as the chairperson of the Mormugao Municipal council, he should be given liberty to undertake the works and development which people need and there should not be interference from MLAs,” D’Souza said.
