India will look to carry its winning momentum into the shortest format when it begins a five-match T20I series against West Indies on Tuesday.
The opening match will be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, with the remaining four games scheduled across Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
The second T20I will be held in Ranchi on October 9, followed by the third match in Indore on October 11. Hyderabad will host the fourth game on October 14, while the series will conclude in Bengaluru on October 17.
The T20I series comes after a successful run for Indian cricket across formats. India recently retained its Asian Games gold medal after defeating Pakistan in a high-scoring final in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The victory added another major achievement to the team’s recent campaign.
India’s senior white-ball side has also enjoyed a positive outing against West Indies in the ODI series. Led by Shubman Gill, India won the first two matches in Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
West Indies, however, managed to end the ODI campaign on a winning note, defeating India in the final match at Mullanpur. The Caribbean side will now aim to carry that momentum into the T20Is and challenge India in the format in which it has traditionally been a dangerous opponent.
For India, the five-match series provides another opportunity to assess its T20 combinations and build momentum ahead of the next phase of international cricket. With matches being played across five different venues, conditions will also vary considerably during the series.
The opening clash in Lucknow is expected to set the tone for the contest. India will enter the series with confidence following its recent results, but West Indies will be keen to make an early statement and prevent the hosts from taking control.
The series will also give both teams valuable competitive time in the shortest format, with every match providing an opportunity to test players, combinations and strategies.
With five matches spread across Lucknow, Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, the India-West Indies T20I series promises a packed contest between two sides with plenty of experience in T20 cricket.
India will hope to maintain its winning run after the Asian Games triumph and ODI series victory, while West Indies will be determined to turn the tide after losing the ODI series 2-1.
The first T20I in Lucknow on Tuesday will therefore mark the beginning of another closely watched chapter in the India-West Indies rivalry.
