CANACONA: Disillusioned with the delay in completion and disorganised work by the contractor of the Ravindra Bhavan, the Cancona MLA has proposed to impose a fine on the erring contractor vis-à-vis better monitoring by the authorities to get the project finished in time.
Speaking to Herald after inspection of the construction site, the Canacona MLA said that the contractor had missed the deadline for completion of the project which is eagerly awaited by Canaconkars; and to top it all, the GSIDC has allocated an extension of another 12 months.
According to the representatives of the contractor at the site, the work has been delayed due to various reasons and till now it is only 30% complete.
“It is not possible for the contractor to finish this project even in the time span of one more year as not even 30% of the work is completed since the work commenced in January 2017,” Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes lamented.
The recreational facility coming up in the form of Ravindra Bhavan at the centre of Canacona is a long felt necessity in the culturally rich taluka and locals are eagerly waiting for the project to be accomplished, Fernandes said.
Amidst allegations by locals over the lethargic pace and poor quality of work undertaken by the contractor, the Canacona MLA visited the construction site and interacted with both representatives of the contractor as well as the consultant and expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the pace and the finishing of the work done till now.
“Locals are upset with both the speed and quality of the works undertaken by the contractor, and as the representative of the people, I will call for a site inspection with GSIDC officials next week to convey my displeasure and also to impose fines on the contractor for the delay in completion of the project,” Fernandes said.
“Despite the GSIDC paying a whopping Rs 56,000 per sq mt, the Delhi based contractor seems incompetent to handle such a huge project as I witnessed just a few labourers working at such a huge project site” Fernandes said.
