PANJIM: Hours after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar made an appearance at his office at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Congress accused the BJP of ‘exhibiting’ Parrikar.
Addressing media persons on Tuesday, Congress spokesperson Jitendra Deshprabhu said, “It is pitiful to see BJP parading Parrikar in public just to prove that he is fit and active to work.”
Deshprabhu claimed that with the nasogastric tube that has been fitted, Parrikar is not in a position to speak. “Parrikar has a nasogastric tube fitted. And BJP is exhibiting him in that condition,” Deshprabhu said adding, “The entire drama is to get people’s confidence back, which they have lost due to non-governance and non-performance.”
Deshprabhu sought to know whether Tuesday’s visit to the Secretariat was as per Parrikar’s wish or party willingness. “If it is Parrikar’s wish, then it is clear that he wants to send a signal to party high command that he is fit and can function as Chief Minister,” he added.
The Congress leader accused BJP of playing with the health of the Chief Minister. “It looks like BJP leaders don’t want Parrikar to recover,” he said.
However, Manipal Goa Hospital Chief of oncology Dr Shekhar Salkar said, “In chief minister Parrikar we see a strong man with tremendous willpower to win against the deadly big C. In the fight against cancer there can be only one winner, it’s either the patient or cancer. He has set a good example for all cancer patients that they have to be positive. In cancer, bed rest does not help patients except when his WBC counts are low due to chemotherapy.”
