PANJIM: The High Court Monday extended the interim stay granted on the Moti Dongor demolitions by three weeks. The next hearing would be held then.
The Goa bench of the Bombay high court had issued an interim stay on the demolitions at Moti Dongor till September 2 recently.
Judges Patil and U V Bhakre had then heard the petition and passed the interim order after a plea was made by residents that the government had not made any alternate arrangements for their stay, despite they residing there for many years.
The orders came after the Advocate General argued that the notices were issued to the residents based on orders of the same court, which had earlier asked the government to demolish the structures in six months.
At the last hearing, the advocates for the petitioners said that the government had not made any alternate arrangements for the residents despite being there for many years.
It may be recalled that comunidade officials had served notices to the dwellers of 210 identified illegal structures which were to be demolished in the presence of police personnel.
The notices were issued after the administrator issued the order of removal of these illegal structures that have come up on the Aquem comunidade land based on the complaints of the comunidade managing committee.
However, the occupants had approached the court claiming that they were not heard properly by the comunidade authorities before issuing the order.
