PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission has directed the State government to take appropriate action regarding a grievance by a Trust on the shortage of cemeteries, crematorium and kabrastans.
Azad Jamatul Muslimeen Welfare Trust had filed a complaint before the commission in March 2018 regarding shortage of kabrastans. It had stated that 174 panchayats have no kabrastan for Muslims, while 50 panchayats have no cemetery for Christians and 43 panchayats have no crematorium for Hindus in the State.
The Commission, on hearing the plea, directed Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma to take appropriate action in accordance with law. “It is the duty of the States, regardless of their political, economic and cultural systems, to promote and protect all human rights and fundamental freedom,” a press note by the Trust states.
