PANJIM: Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said that he will meet Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) MLA Sudin Dhavalikar fuelling speculations about a possible pre-poll alliance between the MGP and the BJP for the ensuing Assembly elections.

“MGP may not be in alliance with BJP but I have cordial relations with Dhavalikar. I am going to meet Sudin Dhavlikar today (Tuesday),” he told reporters.
During his stint as the BJP national president, Gadkari was instrumental in forging pre-poll alliance between the BJP and the regional MGP for 2012 elections. The alliance came to power with BJP winning 21 seats and MGP three seats.
Dhavalikar has however ruled out any pre-poll alliance with the BJP saying that it would be suicidal for the regional party given the past experience.
Meanwhile, reacting to Gadkari’s statement, PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar said that he was not in favour of pre-poll alliance with the MGP since it is not going help BJP much.
“They (MGP) do not have any organisation and have very few members,” Pauskar said.
Pauskar had won Assembly election from Sanvordem on MGP symbol in 2017, later switched to BJP.
