PANJIM: Malkarnem panchayat member Sandesh Gaonkar, brother of Sanguem independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar along with his supporters joined Congress Party in the presence of party president Girish Chodankar and Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat at the Congress House, Panjim on Monday.

Besides, Gaonkar, former panchayat members Gajanand Raikar and Baptist Rodrigues, husband of present sarpanch Leona Rodrigues, Santosh Naik, Anil Mathkar, Sarvesh Naik, Pavto Gaonkar, Prajyot Kurdikar, Caitano Barreto and many other prominent workers joined the Congress.
Speaking to media, Sandesh Gaonkar said that the BJP government has failed to resolve many issues of the people of Sanguem. Forest rights, Salaulim dam, Sanjivani sugar factory and many more issues are still pending and we always stood with the people for their genuine problem but this insensitive and inhuman government took people of Sanguem for granted. We firmly believe that only Congress party can solve the problem of the people.
