PONDA: Taking cue from the secondary school students (Std V to X) of Government School, Davshirem, who protested and boycotted class last year for the delay in renovation work of the school building, around 93 primary school students of same the school have decided to boycott classes from Monday, November 27 to protest against the lack of sufficient teachers.
The students have resolved to continue their protest indefinitely until the school hires more teachers for the school.
Parents disclosed that the school has only one teacher to teach to 93 primary students of our classes (Std I to IV) from November 27, which would affect the studies of their children.
Bearing this in mind, the parents gathered in the school premises on Friday and decided not to send their children to school from Monday, to protest against the lack of sincerity by the education department, despite their demand vide a memorandum submitted earlier, to provide sufficient teachers for the academic year.
According to the parents, as per government guidelines four teachers are necessary to teach around 93 students. However, during the academic year 2017-18 there were only three teachers imparting education to four classes. Two months ago, in August, the education department transferred one teacher, leaving only two teachers for the 93 students.
The parents immediately took cognizance of this and met the Director of Education Gajanan Bhat and submitted a memorandum, asking to reinstate the transferred teacher. However, even after two months no action was taken by the education department to provide more teachers or ask the transferred teacher to return.
It is now learnt that, one of the two remaining teaches is a senior teacher is going on a long leave from November 27, due to the marriage of her daughter, effectively leaving only one teacher to teach 93 students from Monday.
Seeing this unsympathetic and careless attitude of the education department, the furious parents have decided to protest by boycotting classes from Monday.
Incidentally, the senior students had boycotted classes due to the non-repair of roof, which forced them to attend classes with water leaking all over.
