The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) whether it would allow wrestler Vinesh Phogat to participate in the selection trials for the 2026 Senior World Wrestling Championship.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma directed WFI’s counsel to seek instructions on Phogat’s participation and on whether the federation would defer passing a final order in the disciplinary proceedings against her. The matter has been listed for Thursday.

Phogat has challenged WFI’s September 7 circular laying down eligibility criteria for the selection trials scheduled for September 14 at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Stadium. She contends that she does not fall under any of the specified categories and has consequently been excluded from the trials.
Her counsel also urged the court to prevent the disciplinary committee from passing a final order. WFI argued that Phogat had been given multiple opportunities to appear before the committee but did not participate.
The selection trials are for the Senior World Championship scheduled in Astana, Kazakhstan, from October 24 to November 1.
