PONDA: The committee to appointed to enquire into the losses suffered by the cattle feed plant of Goa Dairy, on Thursday claimed that it has some vital documents to prove that the chairman, the managing director (MD) and other officials have committed scam.
However, the committee members did not produced any document to support their allegations, but said when time comes they would definitely expose the scam in cattle feed plant that led to its losses.
The Goa Dairy’s cattle feed plant suffered losses of Rs 5 crore for the financial year 2015-16 and this issue was a major point of discussion at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Goa Dairy held on September 28, 2017.
Expressing concern over the heavy loss of Rs 5 crore for the financial year 2015-16 and also over the previous losses suffered by cattle feed plant, AGM demanded to set up an inquiry committee to find out why the cattle feed plant suffered heavy loss of Rs 5 crore.
Accordingly, a seven-member committee was formed under Chairmanship of Dattaprasad Savordekar along with other six members of milk supplying societies of Goa Dairy.
Two days into the inquiry, the committee did not receive cooperation from the officials of Goa Dairy and even the MD stopped the committee from inquiring into the losses suffered by the cattle feed plant on ground that there was no permission from the Registrar of Co-operative Societies for such a probe; besides, the cooperative laws has no provision authorizing the AGM to appoint an enquiry committee.
After waiting for four months for the permission Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Savordekar on Wednesday alleged a big scam in cattle feed plant involving the Goa Dairy chairman, its MD and other senior officials.
Responding to the allegations of scam, Goa Dairy Chairman Madhav Sahakari on Thursday claimed that the inquiry committee was appointed without legal authority. “Besides, the manner in which the inquiry committee members have leveled allegation of scam, it appears that they want to destroy this institution,” he said.
“Their intentions are not clear. They are trying to blackmail and harass us. I will take legal opinion and decide about filing a police complaint on such elements. We can’t handover confidential document to them as it may be leaked to our rivals. The committee members want to ruin the future of Goa Dairy. Their intention seems to extort money,” Sahakari said.
He said that instead of creating an impression that the Goa Dairy officials are out to loot the local cooperative giant, the committee should file a police complaint against them.
“Since past some years, there has been allegation on Goa Dairy affairs. So, let the Goa government also appoint an investigation team and find out the truth about Goa Dairy business and conduct inquiry on the past and present BoD, MD, and other officials,” Sahakari said adding, “I am open for such an inquiry and if I am found guilty I am ready to face the punishment.”
Explaining the reasons for the loss suffered by the cattle feed plant, Goa Dairy MD Dr Navso Sawant said that the Goa Dairy procured raw material to prepare cattle feed at the rate of Rs 20 per kg, but sold it at Rs 16 per kg. “Though the price of the raw material kept rising year after year, the cattle feed was sold still at Rs 16 per kg and this led to losses every year and it went upto Rs 5.5 crore in 2015-16,” Sawant said.
