The farmers in Saloi village work in their respective fields against odd weather in the hope that they will reap a good harvest.
Last year, the monsoon was very severe and inundated their fields. Their crops were withered away by flooded water and what little remained was rotted having left under water for several days.

Till now, no compensations have been provided by the government to the village farmers, whose crops were destroyed due to rains.
One farmer said, “We had submitted our forms for compensations but till date we haven’t received any answer from the concerned department.” “The government does not provide us financial support as well. We pay from our savings to buy fertilizers. It doesn’t profit us in any way to cultivate our fields as the labour is expensive, yet we uphold our traditional occupation in memory of our ancestors,” said another farmer.
However, the silver lining this year is many have taken to agriculture due to COVID-19 lockdown and the monsoon being moderate. Their only hope is a favourable monsoon to compensate for their hard work and sacrifices.
