Saurav Das, an independent investigative journalist based in New Delhi, has emerged as one of the most recognisable faces of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a youth-led movement that has gained national attention through protests, debates and campaigns centred on examination security, administrative accountability and employment concerns.
Before stepping into politics, Das built his reputation through investigative journalism, Right to Information (RTI) activism and reporting on legal and governance issues. Education and Early Interest in Public Accountability
Saurav Das completed his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication from Amity University between 2016 and 2019. During his college years, he developed a strong interest in transparency and public accountability.
At the age of 18, Das began filing RTI applications to obtain government records and information. His use of the RTI Act gradually became a defining feature of his work, allowing him to investigate issues related to governance, public administration and access to information.
From Newsroom Internship to Independent Journalism
During the final year of his undergraduate studies, Das interned on the news desk of a leading Indian media organisation between December 2018 and January 2019, gaining practical newsroom experience.
After graduating, he shifted towards independent journalism and began publishing investigative reports from 2020 onwards. His work largely focused on judicial accountability, transparency, governance and legal affairs. Over the years, his articles and investigative pieces have appeared in several publications, helping establish his profile as an independent reporter.
Rise Within the Cockroach Janta Party
The Cockroach Janta Party initially began as a satirical online response to remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Over time, however, it evolved into a broader youth movement raising concerns about examination reforms, recruitment processes, administrative accountability and employment opportunities.
Das quickly became one of the organisation’s most visible representatives. Drawing on his journalism background, he frequently presented the party’s arguments using official documents, RTI findings, legal references and publicly available data. Alongside CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, policy strategist Ashutosh Ranka and lawyer Ratna Singh, he has represented the movement during public debates, interviews and demonstrations.
National Spotlight After Kangana Ranaut Exchange
Saurav Das gained wider public attention following a televised exchange with BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut during an interview on Mojo Story. The discussion revolved around Gen Z protesters and youth activism, with the exchange generating widespread discussion across social media platforms.
Subsequent comments by Ranaut questioning Das’s background and role as a young activist further amplified public interest in his work and the Cockroach Janta Party.
Growing Digital Influence
Since becoming associated with the CJP, Das has significantly expanded his digital presence, regularly sharing updates on protests, interviews and campaigns through social media.
His journey—from a journalism student and RTI activist to an investigative journalist and political spokesperson—reflects a career centred on public accountability, transparency and civic engagement. As the Cockroach Janta Party continues to attract attention, Saurav Das remains one of its most prominent public voices, bridging investigative reporting with political communication.
