CALANGUTE: A tourist who allegedly attempted to commit suicide at Candolim beach, was rescued by lifeguards and handed over to police.
According to Drishti Lifesavers, they were alerted after hearing cries from a waiter at a beach shack about a fully-clothed man, who had suddenly flung himself into the sea making no obvious effort to swim.
Lifesavers rushed to the scene and brought the man back to the shore. Following a quick medical examination, lifesavers on conducting enquiries learnt that the man had attempted suicide. He was promptly turned over to the police for further questioning.
Drishti lifesavers also rescued another person off Candolim beach who was a part of a group of eight persons from Karnataka who were frolicking in the waters when a sudden wave engulfed him. Lifesavers noticed a sudden commotion in the waters and rushed to rescue the man who was struggling to swim.
