PANJIM: Communist Party of India on Tuesday announced the candidature of Adv Suhas Naik and Adv Raju Mangueshkar for the North and South Goa Parliamentary seats for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls scheduled on April 12.
Naik, convenor of Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF), spearheaded the pro-mining agitation in Goa 18 months back, while union leader Mangueshkar was actively involved in the language agitation, Nylon 66, Meta Strips, regional plan and other struggles.
Addressing media persons, CPI said that it had decided to contest the polls to build a united, secular, socialist, democratic and prosperous India. It stated that the failure of Congress-led UPA-II government has given BJP an upper hand to revert to its old game of fanning communal sentiments behind the veil of development module.
The CPI said that people are now looking for an alternative, adding that the party’s manifesto will focus on rooting out corruption and unemployment.
