PANJIM: Criticising the Goa government for failing to curb the rising prices of essential commodities and food items, the state unit of Communist Party of India has urged the government to open retail outlets in every village and town to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities at subsidized rates.
CPI general secretary Christopher Fonseca, in a press statement issued on Tuesday, said that when compared to the rest of the country, the prices of essential commodities including rice, wheat, sugar, dal, vegetables, eggs, beef and meat have gone beyond the reach of the common man.
Fonseca said that the prices of life-saving drugs, medicines, water, electricity, housing and education have also gone up. “In the face of severe financial crunch due to the mining ban, the government is feverishly levying more taxes on the working people in the state,” he said.
“Government has become highly insensitive to the anguish and suffering of the people,” Fonseca said.
