MARGAO: The Aquem-Baixo Panchayat in coordination with local police removed three carts along the Margao-Quepem road in a drive against illegal roadside structures and gaddas.

Following complaints from residents, the panchayat cleared the carts using bulldozers after repeated notices issued to their owners.
The panchayat added that this was long overdue as the structures had earlier become a significant safety hazard, creating obstacles for commuters, pedestrians and increasing the risk of accidents along the route.
Speaking to media persons, sarpanch Inacio alias Danny Dias emphasised the panchayat’s zero-tolerance policy toward illegal activities and affirmed the panchayat’s commitment to continued enforcement.
The Sarpanch revealed that several cart owners had voluntarily removed their carts before the drive.
“We urged them to relocate their carts due to the inconvenience they were causing. While we aim to avoid causing distress, this measure was necessary,” Dias explained.
Panch member Amisha Tilve, representing the ward where the issue was most prevalent, emphasised the decision stemmed from public grievances.
“Residents frequently complained about these carts, and their aggressive behaviour had become intolerable. This step was essential to ensure smooth movement on the road,” Tilve stated.
