MARGAO: Continuous showers in Salcete have wreaked havoc at many places and caused a great deal of inconvenience to those celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi.
There were reports of uprooting of trees near Ana Font Garden at Ratwado, Navelim, while a long compound wall collapsed in Chinchinim.
Fire brigade officials said that uprooting of trees and crashing of branches have been their biggest concern.
When contacted, the disaster management cell said that they had informed the authorities to check for trees and branches that were at a high risk of collapsing and asked them to cut or trim them immediately.
There were also frequent power fluctuations throughout the day, dampening the festive mood.
