PANJIM: Maccabi Mumbai and M7 Football Club advanced in the M7 FC’s Spartacus –King of the week futsal tournament, following their wins in their respective Round of 16 encounters, played at Don Bosco court, Panjim.
While Maccabi Mumbai defeated Black and White 4-2, M7 FC proved their luck over Boom Boom Dempo via toss decider after being held in regulation time and the penalty shootout.
Boom Boom Dempo started brightly with Santos and R Fernandes leading their attack and the former forced M7 FC’s keeper Edwin to pull the first save of the match in the second minute.
M7 struggled in the initial stages, but later had series of attacks through Sherwin and Auzden but couldn’t get past the rival defender.
At the other end, Santos’s long-range shot was parried by M7 keeper Edwin. Boom Boom Dempo almost scored but were denied by the brilliant keeping from Edwin.
Changing ends, riding on the fan support, M7 finally broke the deadlock through Sherwin. The medio on receiving a through ball from Auzden dribbled a defender and fired past the rival keeper, 1-0.
Hardly had the cheers settled, Boom Boom Dempo equalised through Rohit, who capitalized on a defensive lapse, 1-1.
With scores level at end of the regulation time and penalty shootout, M7 won via toss.
In the earlier match, Black and White team took an early lead into the match through Gabby but were Stunned by reverse, Mumbai regrouped quickly and levelled terms through Clinton just before the breather.
Crossing ends, Mumbai came back strongly and took the lead when Clinton scored his brace with a sublime finish. After dominating for a while, Black and White levelled terms through Milton.
Just as the Goan side looked to score, the Mumbai team fired two quick goals through Denzil and Kristen to make it 4-2 and take the game beyond Black and White’s reach.
In the third match, Highlanders beat Ritu Boys 2-1.
