HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, DEC 27
Crime Branch is looking at unearthing a major cheating and forgery case, which could run into lakhs of rupees, allegedly committed by a government official from 1993 to 2007.
Sources said an offence has been registered under Sections 471 (using fake documents as genuine) and 420 (cheating) of IPC against Deputy Director of Transport Ashok Bhosle on a complaint filed by one Sudesh Kalangutkar, who is a businessman.
They revealed that Bhosle during his postings at Panjim, Bicholim, Ponda, Vasco, Mapusa and a few other places over the years was involved in fraudulently registering vehicles on fake residential proof.
The sources said Crime Branch was in possession of documentation sought under Right to Information Act that goes on to show the extent of the whole crime that would require meticulous investigation.
Around seven to eight cases have come to light where the deputy director has given tax exemptions to some heavy vehicles, they informed.
They mentioned that the Crime Branch was perusing through the RTI documentation to see how many such fraudulent deals Bhosle had transacted and how much money he pocketed.
